Images do not show after moving site from wordpress.com to my own server

Hello,

Since 2011, my blog was hosted on wordpress.com.

Then towards the end of December 2014, I moved my site to wordpress.org onto my own server.

My blog is photo-related, so I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of photos that do not show up (everything before late-Dec. 2014 except for a few that I fixed painstakingly..).

It would take months and months to re-upload my hundreds of photos one by one…

I hope there’s another way to fix this. For some reason, I can see the images on my computer, but the photos are not viewable elsewhere. Which why I’m just finding this out now..

You’ll see the featured images, because I added them post-migration. All the other images will be broken.

How do I get my images to work? I really hope I don’t have to re-upload them one-by-one!

Thanks in advance (I’m not much of a techy so I really need clear instructions).

Using Chrome inspector, it looks like at the images from your site are still pointing to https://grenobloise.files.wordpress.com/…

If you have the images on your server, you’ll need to make changes to the database and search for

https://grenobloise.files.wordpress.com/
and replace it with:
http://grenobloise.com/wp-content/uploads/

You can do that by doing a SQL statement in your phpMyAdmin or using a plugin like :
https://wordpress.org/plugins/search-and-replace/

Thanks for your help.

Indeed, my old wordpress.com files start with “http://grenobloise.files.wordpress.com/”, and my new wordpress.org ones with “http://grenobloise.com/wp-content/uploads/”.

I installed “CM On Demand Search And Replace” and followed your instructions.

Unfortunately, the images still do not work.

Do you have any advice?

Update: I just had to delete the Replacement code from the plugin b/c suddenly NONE of my website’s images worked!

Looking at the source code, it looks like the search and replaced worked, but the bad news is that the images are missing.

For example this link here – http://grenobloise.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/pb010390b.jpg

So, unless you have a backup of the wordpress site with the images folder, I’m not sure what can be done.
Maybe go back to wordpress.com and see if they still have these images?
I’m not entirely sure what can be done here.

OK.

Well, I removed Search & Replace b/c more images were missing..

Yes, I still have the images on WordPress.com.

Looks like I’m in a worse spot than I was in the beginning. I stressed how I really didn’t want to lose the 4+ years of images…
