• Fair Warning: If you deactivate the plugin, you will lose all original images that it compressed!

I tested the plugin on 40 images (I believe that was the max amount using the free version). I decided to use a different plugin and deactivated ShortPixel. All images that were compressed by the plugin were deleted from my WordPress Media Library. All of them.

    Hi Kristof,

We appreciate your feedback, but we want to clarify that ShortPixel Image Optimizer does not delete any images under any circumstances, whether the plugin is active or deactivated. Our plugin only optimizes images and stores backups if that option is enabled.

If you experienced missing images after deactivating the plugin, it’s likely due to another factor, such as a caching issue or another plugin interfering with your media library. We recommend clearing your cache and checking your site’s file system via FTP or your hosting panel to verify that your images are still there.

If you’d like, you’re welcome to review our plugin’s code—there is no function that removes images upon deactivation. We’d also be happy to help investigate further if you can provide more details.

Let us know how we can assist!

    Best,
