Support » Fixing WordPress » image with “width=150” not rendered correctly in admin Visual editor

  • When laying out my posts in the wordpress editor, I include a small image at the top of the post. In the text editor, I specify width=”150″ for the image. In the Visual editor, this thumbnail-sized image used to show up correctly. I have been doing this in WP for several years.

However, in 4.8.1 the image now shows up full-size in the Visual editor, and the width= no longer has any effect. This makes it very difficult to lay out my posts.

I tried using the WP editor in chrome, firefox, and safari on my mac, and I tried deactivating all my plugins on a localhost database. I rebooted my mac. I tried the WP editor on my ipad. But width= stays full-size in the editor. However, the published post is correctly formatted in all browsers.

I put an image showing the visual vs text editor problem on my website at https://soccermoviemom.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/WP-Visual-editor-problem-4-8-1.jpg

With 4.8, started using ELementor for my front page, but I do not use it for posts. Also, as I mentioned, I deactivated Elementor on the localhost, but it did not change the width= problem. My theme is twenty seventeen.

    Thank you for your help,
    -mj lee

  • Hi @prmyapps,

I’ve been testing this in my install (using the code you have in the image) and it seems to work correctly.
Please can you let me know what is in the class “alignleft size-full”?

    Hi @krisjl,
i apologiZe, i tried to paste in the actual image code from the WP Text tab, but this forum editor keeps rendering the image. I don’t know how to disable that.

I’m not sure what you are asking. In the WP Admin editor, I use the media button in the Text editor to add an image as either a URL link to tmdb.org or from my WP Media library. When I add the media, WP inserts the original image size. I then set the image width to 150.

I tried changing the height to 150 as well, but it did not change the image size in the Visual tab.

Then, in the Visual tab, I tried resizing the image by dragging it. Image size values changed in a little box in the upper right corner of the image, to 391×592. BUT, the image appearance in the Visual tab remained full size despite these numbers changing. Then, when I went back to the Text tab, I noticed that “size-full” was no longer in the HTML, and also the width and height values had changed to what the Visual Editor had indicated in the little box

However, as I say, the Visual editor still only displays the full-size image. So difficult to layout the post. The published post has the sizes as stated in the Text tab.

I don’t know CSS, script, or much html, so I don’t know what class even means…

I’m surprised you can’t duplicate this. Should I try a windows machine?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi MJ,

My apologies for the delay in coming back to you. I’ve been testing this further and I also have the same issue. The visual editor is not reflecting image edits made by dragging the image to a different size or editing the code, but when it is previewed or published it shows correctly on any of my devices.

I can’t see anyone else raising this so I will get it raised, but for now the preview should be used to confirm layout of your posts as changes to the image are not reflected in the visual editor.

    hi @krisjl,
thank you so much for taking the time to confirm the bug.
I’m a little relieved to know i am not crazy 🙂
    hope it’s easy to fix!
    cheers,

I have the same problem, as well as all my (around 30) students.
the images are NOT showing in the right size in the editor. but they do look fine (in the right size) on the front end!
    very weird!
it started I think at 4.8 or 4.7…
