External image links on the home page (to FB and Twitter) stopped working recently. I tried creating new pages with different links but they didn’t work either.

I’ve eventually traced the problem to nextgen after deactivating the nextgen plugin, after which the links worked fine.

Is there a fix for this coming soon?

    Thanks.

  • Hello @maggiedusnic,

We have checked that link and there are some errors messages in the console log.
I know that you find out that is our plugin somehow, but would you mind performing a full conflict check just to be sure?

If the problem persists, you probably need to check for conflicts.
    – Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
    – Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
    – If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

A full website backup is recommended.

If the problem persists, please try to delete and re-install NextGEN Gallery.
But please, check those console errors, perhaps the culprit is visible there.

Please keep us posted, we are happy to help!

    Hi Gaby

    Thanks for your reply.

I deactivated all plugins except NextGen but the problem of clicking image links (not in the gallery but on individual pages) still persists – nothing happens when clicking the images. Right-clicking and choosing open in new tab” works but obviously that isn’t what users would want or expect.

I changed the theme to the standard WP 2020 theme; that made no difference either.

When I disable the NextGEN plugin, the links all work correctly.

I’ve looked at the error log but I’m afraid it’s way beyond my knowledge.

If I uninstall nextgen plugin and then reinstall, I assume the gallery settings, images etc will all be as before? Please will you confirm.

I forgot to say, I’m on WP 5.5.1.

    Regards
    Maggie

    Hello @maggiedusnic,

Yes, that shouldn’t affect your galleries or settings.
But we always recommend a website backup just in case.

We just made a quick test, and we can’t replicate the issue, so it seems that it is something really specific in your site.

Our plugin works with WordPress 5.5.1. All our testing sites are on that version.
The developers will update the lastest tested version in the WordPress repository this week.

Please, keep us posted. We are happy to help!

    Hi Gaby

Thanks for your reassurance. (I did backup first!)

I’ve deactivated and reinstalled nextgen but sadly the problem persists.

Can you please let me know when I can install the latest tested version.

    Thanks
    Maggie

    Hi @maggiedusnic,

I think that we have a workaround for you. Please access “NextGen Gallery -> Other Options -> Lightbox Effects” and choose “Only apply to NextGen and WordPress images” for “What lightbox would you like to use?” then press the “Save Options” button and try to click on any of your social network links to see if that will work.

    Hi Mihai

Brilliant! It didn’t work initially but changing it to “Only apply to NextGen images” works a treat. I would never have thought to check in there!

    Thanks so much.

    Regards
    Maggie
