In my menu, I have links to multiple pages that contain an image gallery. The first menu item is called “Inside DC” and underneath it is a link to a page called “Events”. Once you click on “Events”, you will see five images. When I set up the gallery of five images, I added a link for each image to a separate post. When I click on “Inside DC”/”Events” and then on an image, I just get the slideshow carousel, instead of the post. I want to link to the URL for the post based on the shortlink I inserted.

I read elsewhere that you can change the settings. I read under Settings, Media, there was an option to turn the carousel slidshow off. I don’t see an option to turn the slideshow carousel off.

Here is the link to my website: http://www.dcandbeyond.com/

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Sterling

  • Don’t use a Gallery, insert and properly format in HTML and CSS your images with their respective href’s. This is basic HTML and CSS.

Thanks for your response. I don’t know HTML or CSS. Is there a way around my issue in WordPress using a plugin or other approach?

Hey @sterlingcrowder, if you can open up the image editor (it’s a fat pencil that appears above images when you click them while editing your page) for one of the images in question you should get a dropdown menu “Link To” as one of the options. If you set that to “Custom URL” and paste in the link to the blog post, it should do what you’re looking for.

So, you could edit the first image (of eastern market), set “Link To” to “Custom URL” paste in this link:

    Does that work?

Thank you, cvfergus! That works great if I add the images to the page individually. However, I am using a gallery to evenly space the images on the page and when I go to edit the gallery and look at the individual images, I don’t see the same “Link To” drop down menu.

Do you know how I could get it to work using WP Gallery Custom Links plugin? Or using your idea, is there a way to evenly space the images on the page similar to how the gallery does and not use a gallery? Thanks.

Whoops, it looks like you hit the nail on the head with the “WP Gallery Custom Links” plugin. This picture (the box in the bottom right) shows exactly what you want, I think.

For some reason, when I use this plugin and I fill in that box for the Gallery Link, it doesn’t work. It just does a carousel slideshow. Do you have any ideas why even though I fill in the URL box, why it wouldn’t be working? Is there another setting that I am not using properly? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, cvfergus.

I found the answer to my problem. I use Jetpack and the Carousel was activated. Once I deactivated the Carousel, the URL link is now working. It was just a setting issue. Thanks for the support.

Glad this is worked out, and happy to help (though you totally figured it out). Could you mark this support topic “Resolved” when you get a chance?
