Image upload with php safe mode off

  • Hello my friends!

Today I decided to start playing a little with the wordpress gallery features on my 2.5.1 install. But, I when trying to upload, I failed and I failed and I failed. Every time it stopped at the crunching part of the first photo.

I tried different browsers (firefox, explorer), different operating systems (ubuntu, windows xp) and re-installing flash on ubuntu, but nothing worked.

Then I found something about php safe mode, that it has to be off. My host (www.one.com) has it on be default and you can’t choose to turn it off. They say it’s a security issue.

So, my question is: Is there a way to make uploading work with php safe mode on? If not, can someone please tell me the best webhost to move to. A stable, cheap and good alternative with safe mode off!

    Thank you!

  • There can be issues if the apache-user (not “your” user) is interpreting the php scripts while safe_mode is turned on (I tried to explain that here: 180378).

If you can´t turn php-mode off you have to change the owner of your php-files OR you have to change the write/execute-permissions of your upload folders (and all of it´s subfolders).

    P.S.: php6 won´t feature safe_mode any more.

Ok, thanks! So, when will php6 be released? 🙂

I strongly think about changing my webhost anyway, I mean, if I run into more problems with safe mode on it’s just time consuming trying to find ways around it every time.
