Image Upload HTTP error

Hi,

I know this is a common problem and there have been lots of support queries on the issue, but I’ve gone through and tried everything suggested and I’m still having problems.

I receive an HTTP error message on upload for most images, I need to upload 960px wide photos for my banners, but I get the error. The only way I can get it to work, is by reducing the quality of the photos very low, but obviously this isn’t ideal, the cutoff is around 100kb.

Can anyone think of a way around this?

I’m also having some issues using permalinks, getting 404 errors on every page but the home, whether or not this is separate issue, I’m not sure.
