Image Upload Errors

  • I’m trying to upload images to blog posts but I keep getting erros. Specifically I get: Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/calranch.com/subdomains/blog/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I’m trying to upload the files from my computer and I’ve tried the browser and flash uploaders. Both have the same results. Why is this happening?

Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Where on my dashboard can I make these adjusmtents?

You can’t. You need to use FTP or your hosting account control panel. Please see the link I posted above.

I’ve had the setting changed through our host and now I’m getting the following error.

“Whinny Nicker Horse Treats.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/calranch.com/subdomains/blog/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.

If changing the file permissions doesn’t work, sometimes deleting the folder and making it again manually works.

If you are going to be deleting a folder that already has stuff in it that you want to keep, be sure to download the contents of the folder before you delete it 🙂

What folder are you talking about? The one from my computer that I’m trying to upload the photo from, or is there a folder on my dashboard?

Re-create uploads folder before delete the folder download all data which in uploads.

Your post doesn’t make any sense. Come again?

@calranch: The uploads folder on your hosting account.

I mean /var/www/vhosts/calranch.com/subdomains/blog/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads delete uploads folder from your wordpress directory but before deleting download a back up of uploads folder and then re create uploads folder.

This is not something that you are going to be able to do from the WordPress admin CP if you were wondering. You are going to have to use FTP to do what has been suggested.
