    the images are compressed correctly but the type remains image/jpeg and I don’t know if this can lead to future problems

    @patrikmuse Thank you for the review it’s much appreciated. With regards to your images being jpeg after being compressed, please note that if the plugin has identified that the WebP version of the uploaded JPEG image would have a larger file size than the original JPEG image, the WebP version is not generated. This could be what is happening here.
