    Hi @anytechsolutions

That’s our new simplelightbox effect. It will show the titles of each photo.

You can select another lightbox effect if you like here:
Go to Gallery > Other Options > Lightbox Effects

Or your client can adjust the title on each photo.

    We hope that this helps!

Sorry, you do not seem to have read my query correctly.

The filenames now have dashes inserted between the words. I pasted a link for you also to see what I meant. The file names are NOT loaded with these dashes but they are appearing in the gallery with dashes.
    We Dont want them.
    Are we doing something wrong?

    Hi @anytechsolutions

    Hi @anytechsolutions

Sorry if I gave the impression of not paying attention.

    For the upload process:
Did you check the names of the photos?
The names of the photos are going to be used by NextGen as “Titles” in case the meta description “title” of the photograph is missing.
    Sample: https://monosnap.com/file/zH0fv08PWYKWeRCxZqSPhYb375Wpwb

You can add the title of those photographs using some software like Adobe Lightroom, or you fix them directly in NextGen Gallery > Manage Galleries.

    We hope that this helps!

thats thepoint. the tiitles on the originals do NOT have dashes between the words, after upload they have dashes.

    Hi @anytechsolutions

I belived our NextGen Upload process includes those dashes to avoid some issues with some server configurations.

    Sample photo:
    https://monosnap.com/file/TGMPLuryTqbRkQpiZbbl9g6y6XRx5a

The uploaded photo filename it’s rename to “A-Adventure-101.JPG”
    https://monosnap.com/file/0dpMUeMsLsZDEBMWxjOnebx62NlHPP

And since the meta tag of “Title” for the photo it’s empty
    https://monosnap.com/file/OctOAoT6DpZcGPiMPC5hOMN4uFwCP9

NextGen Gallery will use the “File” name as the title.
It will include the dashes as well. It’s the way the gallery works at this moment.

The best way to fix this problem as I have described it’s to include a real title to the photo meta information.

You mentioned that it was working differently before?
We want to take a closer look at this particular request.
We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that? If so, please send us a bug report here: http://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread and let them know Gaby referred you.

Note: Please, if possible include an original version of one of the photo for testing.

    Thanks!

all 40,000 images loaded so far do not have the dashes and thats what we expected to continue. I do not want to mess with the site as last time i did that the site broke and again the issue was created by your plugin.
We just want the plugin to load files as it used to without adding dashes??
look for yourself and you will the images we loaded dont have dashes in the viewing name.

    HI @anytechsolutions,

As long as I know, NextGen always replaced the empty spaces from he file names with dashes so that’s definitely not a new behavior. That’s required by NextGen in order to correctly work with the image’s links. The idea is that you can’t really generate a link where the image’s name would contain spaces.

Can you please let us know when and with what NGG version have you/your client tried to upload images and NextGen didn’t replace the spaces from the image’s titles with dashes?

    Thanks

we are really going round in circles, have you taken a look at the site mentioned http://www.5929.co.uk
every single gallery was built with your app and none of the filenames have dashes and neither do the uploads, if they did we wpould never use your app as who wants dashes in the name of the image while browsing? no one. the dashes appeared last week after uploading one new gallery which again I posted the link to and we did not update our version of plugin to my knowledge.
we are on Version: 3.1.17 and there is an update pending which we are loated to do encase even more breaks.
if you cannot help please pass on to somene else who can as this is wasting time, frustrating end users and solving nothing.

    Hi @anytechsolutions

Sorry if you feel that we are not taking this thread seriously.
    We do.

To have some developer time on this particular request, we need a bug report from you. Of course, we understand that you currently don’t want to perform a necessary conflict check or any troubleshooting, but indeed we need that report to get the proper help.

    Please, bear with us.

    Note:
Mihai question was valid, perhaps an older version of the gallery created those photos without the “dashes”.

Thank you for your response. His statement was incorrect which is why its frustrating.
‘As long as I know, NextGen always replaced the empty spaces from he file names with dashes so that’s definitely not a new behavior.’
    This is incorrect.
If you can tell us what version does NOT insert dashes we will roll back as that seems easiest right now. You must have logs as to when the devs made the change and it can’t be that long ago.

    Hi @anytechsolutions

    Apologies.

I was writing about this request:

Can you please let us know when and with what NGG version have you/your client tried to upload images and NextGen didn’t replace the spaces from the image’s titles with dashes?

Mihai wanted to know the version you were previously using.

I have followed your suggestions and checked our changelog. It seems that in version 2.1.31 (04.05.2016) there was a change to replace the slugs with dashes.

But that change of “slug” it’s been used to create the URLs, not the titles.
    https://www.imagely.com/wordpress-gallery-plugin/nextgen-gallery/changelog/

We have also had a quick chat with the rest of the team and our main photographer mention that the gallery works in that way at the moment. If there is no meta title in the photograph, then the title will likely have hyphens.

Here is what we can do at this moment.
Please, complete a feature request form https://www.imagely.com/feature-voting/
Share with us that you want spaces instead of “hyphens” or “dashes” in your titles whenever the photograph does not have the meta “title” information.

We experimented today by reverting and have reverted to 3.1.7 and wont now upgrade any further. Dashes are gone.
    thanks

I have come here and found this thread because I have noticed the same effect. If I can be clear on the terminology.
When an image file is uploaded and there are spaces in the filename, then it is true and has always been true that the filename has to be modified on storage in the gallery by filling the space characters with non-space and that uses a hyphen (minus).
I believe that was not the issue raised, and that NextGen has misunderstood the issue. What has started happening now is that the ‘Alt’ field is taking the value of the STORED filename (with hyphens) when previously it took the value of the UPLOADING filename (with spaces). In either case, this is/was the default behaviour if there is no content in the relevant IPTC field.
The Alt field is what the viewer sees on hovering over the thumbnail. I agree with the original correspondent that this change to include hyphens is not desirable, and it would be nice to revert.
