  • Hi,

I just wanted to know if it was possible to request a particular sized thumbnail of an image that had been uploaded into the WordPress Media section?

I know WordPress generates some thumbnails when you upload an images but I want to be able to request a particular size thumbnail from the template files.

Is this possible or would it be best to modify the WordPress uploader to spit out the thumbnail sizes that I wanted?

    Thanks 🙂

How do you use this function?

How does it know which image to create a thumbnail of, the client basically has a collection of high resolution images (which are apparently about 100MB each) and they want them displayed as an image gallery on a page so obviously I will need to generate some thumbnails to get the file sizes down and page load time faster.

What would be the best way to go about doing this?

You should get the size down to something more manageable in an image editor before uploading unless the images really need to be 100MB.

How to call the required image size is in the article in the post I linked.

This is added to your functions.php (customised with a descriptive name for the size & the required dimensions)

& this goes into the template file to display the image at the size using the name you gave to the new size above.
