    Hi @jesyna!

Is that happening using the auto-post feature? The plugin goes through various steps and fallbacks to try and extract/create an image that falls within the requirements of GMB. If everything fails, it will finally fall back on the originally uploaded image file, which can be larger than what the media library indicates (you can check this by clicking the “Original image:” link in the Media Library and checking the image size).

If you have any plugins active that do something with image thumbnails (caching/image cleanup/compression/WebP conversion etc), they may be causing a conflict. I’d check the settings of any such plugins and make sure they aren’t preventing the “pgmb-post-image” image size from being generated.

We checked the other plugins,,,no conflicts that we can see

I see! GMB does not support the AVIF image format natively, so the plugin will try to convert the image to PNG before uploading. Because the image has such large pixel dimensions the resulting PNG file will likely be very big (the 14MB you’re seeing), causing the error. I recall there was a good reason to use PNG over JPG in this case, despite the larger file size… But my first thought is that JPG would’ve made more sense!

Anyway, I’ll try to make the plugin handle this situation more gracefully in the next update

For now, you could manually add the image by editing the post through the Post to GMB metabox and supplying the image in a different image format, or smaller pixel dimensions and see if that goes through.

Failed to create/update post: Post image file too big, must be 5 MB at most. Selected image is 17 MB still occuring. 570K jpg,,,I think its something else: https://www.webuyhoustonrealestate.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/pexels-andy-vuknic-136936880-10286038-scaled.jpg

Hi @jesyna, that’s strange that it also happens with the JPG file! But the URL you provided appears to be a scaled version of the original image, generated by WordPress. It’s possible that the plugin tried to use a different variation of the image that was closer to the recommended size and aspect ratio for GBP posts, still resulting in the error.

I’ve tried using some large scale WebP and AVIF files and indeed managed to replicate the error. I’ve just released the v3.3.3 update that should fix it. It should be available for install in your WordPress dash. I’ve also added the URL of the image that the plugin tried to use into the error message for easier troubleshooting, in case the issue persists.

Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention, please install the update and let me know if that fixes it!

Glad to hear that @jesyna! I noticed a small oversight in the vertical scaling of the image right after i released the update, so images may look slightly stretched. I’ll address that in the next update

3.3.4 should fix the image scaling issue!
