I think this is new within the last release or two. Searching for images is VERY slow when using an “add media” feature (either native WordPress or a plugin like Beaver Builder.)

On a site with roughly 800 images, using search in an add-media context was taking 10 or more seconds. When I disabled Media Library Assistant search results return in less than a second. I’ve tested this on several client sites with the same results. It’s true using search with the Classic Editor’s “add media” button or a Beaver Builder photo/gallery module.

I’ve used MLA for years and love it. I get that it adds more fields to search, and that more fields = heavier queries on the database. But this seems like a pretty dramatic slowdown.

Thanks to both of you for your reports. You may be experiencing the same issue raised in this recent topic:

PHP fatal error with 2.90 and WP 5.5.3

If you have access to the error log on your system, have a look for messages like that posted in the other topic. In any case it would be great if you could try the new Development Version as described in that topic and let me know if it resolves your problem. Thanks for your help and your interest in MLA.

I have released MLA v2.91, which I believe contains a fix for this problem.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if the problem persists after updating to the latest version. Thanks again for alerting me to this MLA defect.
