In order for an image in the post content to be used as a fallback image–if there is no featured image, as in your case–the image must be “attached” to the post. Generally, that happens automatically, if the image is uploaded to the site during the post creation, and the image is uploaded within the post editor.

Based on the image and post IDs and dates, I expect that the images are not linked to the post, other than appearing in the post content, which is why the plugin cannot “find” them.

Ok Robin..i now understand. These images were actually uploaded to my wordpress website previously for other posts and i have only reused them in my present posts, by selecting them from the media library.
So basically, for images to be sent to rss (in case they are not featured images), the images have to be uploaded for the particular post. Is my understanding correct?
    Thanks in advance.

Robin, Another thing that i noticed is that the fallback image posted in the rss feed is not the first but the last image of the post. Plz check this article for instance – https://www.thegaudiyatreasuresofbengal.com/2020/06/07/revisiting-karl-marx-and-friedrich-engels-upholding-spirituality-against-materialism/
The feed https://www.thegaudiyatreasuresofbengal.com/feed conatins the last image posted in the article, though the other images are also new inages that were uploaded along with the particular post. Is this ok as per the algorithm?

The fallback image code is supposed to retrieve the first image uploaded to the post. If you uploaded images one at a time as you were editing the content, and you know for sure that’s the last image uploaded, then it’s possible that the fallback image code needs to be updated. Generally, it’s always preferable to use the featured image functionality, because there won’t be any question about what’s going to be used.

If you are comfortable editing a PHP file, you could try making a small change to one of the plugin files and see if that makes a difference. It’s /includes/class-sendimagesrss-excerpt-fixer.php in the plugin folder … the current version of the plugin uses menu_order as the orderby parameter, but changing it to menu_order ID may give a different result. If it does, I would be interested to know, and might include it in the next plugin update.

Hi Robin, Thank you for your input. I changed the code to ‘orderby’ => ‘menu_order ID’
This did the trick and now the first image uploaded for the post is being fetched in the rss. Thanks again.
On a sidenote, i usually avoid featured image functionality as the twenty-twelve theme that i use displays a huge a featured image pushing the title and the entire content down.
