The option robots.txt is now included by default. It uses a WP filter to add virtual robots.txt with appropriate rules for Twitter’s bot.

I think the error might be due to the fact twitter has not fetched your website. But be careful if you use some CDN to load images, you have to authorize the CDN too.

Thank you very much, tweetpressfr, for reply.

Unfortunately, however, the issue is not resolved. As I can see by the output of the Twitter validator, Twitter has in fact fetched the website and grabbed some data. There is no CDN being used, either.

Again: It is possible to set a custom image URL in a post. However, if you look at the actual card metadata being inserted at the source code of that post, the fallback URL is missing now (as it should) and an image URL is missing completely (as it should not).

    Any further ideas on this?

Hum you’re right that should not. I’ll fix it in 7.0.3

Thank you. I just updated, but unfortunately, nothing has changed. When I set an image URL, the image URL in the posting’s metadata gets lost completely.

Is there anything I can do to help you get the error fixed?

I have the same issue with 7.0.2 running on 4.4.1. Fallback image and featured image works well, but if I select an image I don’t the get tag that points out the image.
