I cannot get Image Manager to work. I don't understand how to properly set it up, and the installation instructions are vague.

Last time I checked Image Manager doesn't work with WordPress 2.2 and it's site still says that it's only tested with 2.0 and 2.1, so if you have an up-to-date copy of wordpress you won't be able to run it.

Really though, I wouldn't bother. ImageManager had an awful interface and created mediocre quality images. overall it was pretty craptastic.

I just use http://pixenate.com or http://www.picnik.com/ , both of which have nice, useful, high-quality online editing servies that are free and let you upload photos, edit them, then download them again to upload to wordpress. (I have no relation or association with those sites, they're just what I switched to after Image Manager broke and my life improved.)

What a waste of time! who wants to upload and download photos all the time, espically when there are plugins out there that do it on the fly! WordPress is powerful enough to do all of this, it's just a matter of finding the right plugin

the combination of http://www.picnik.com/ with http://www.flickr.com seems to be a powerful option the only problem is that, images which are from flickr already uploaded in wordpress, cant be managed or changed anymore (at least with picnik). it will show the sign "this image is currently not available".
    any ideas????
