I’ve been ranting about the default “linked images” problem for a while.

This used to plague tech crunh as well as me, but they seem to have solved it in an interesting way.

Check out techcrunh.com All the front page images are linked to the permalink URL. Then once you’re on the permalink page, there is no link.

Anyone know how this was done? Could this be automated?

I wonder if they’re using a plugin, or if it has to do with the way the theme is coded – that is if I understood what you are asking and referring to.

If you look at the source of one of the images, it reads like this:
http://www.theirsiteurl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/header_feature_724_1269694311.jpg from an image on the front home page, and then when you click through the image has the normal file path you would see from the WP upload file, like this:
    http://www.theirsiteurl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/image-620x362.jpg

It’s interesting, but not sure how they’re doing it other than a plugin or theme feature?

    Hmm yeah, custom plugin?

I love the feature. Frankly, I’d take anything that prevents people from accidentally linking the images to themselves (horrifically, the default)

What genius decided that images should be linked by default? I have to spend 30 minutes every day now going though posts getting rid of these useless links which writers who don’t know any better add!

Did you look to see if there’s possibly a plugin to eliminate that challenge, and perhaps only allow you as the admin to add links if you wished to?

The last thing I need is another plugin. 🙂
