    Hi all,

My apologies if this has been answered before, I did try a search before posting…

I am in the process of moving from WP-hosted to self-hosted. I have successfully imported the WordPress WRX file and my posts, comments, categories, etc. all came over fine.

However, it doesn’t appear my images came over, or at least they didn’t come over in a usable fashion. If I’m writing a post and select the Browse All option for images, I just get a bunch of boxes saying something about XML.

So my question is – do I need to run something or do something different to get my images over, usable, and correct for past posts?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The images don’t come over. (I believe it says that on the export page.) You have to manually move them over or keep your wp.com blog in place and just hotlink to your images.

Thanks Jackiedobson. I was beginning to get that impression based on the number of support posts I saw talking about how to re-create images.

I re-checked the export page and it doesn’t say anything about images not coming over. It does say what will come over, and I supposed in an indirect way that implies that everything else won’t come over, but it is certainly easy to miss.

It’s a shame that there isn’t an option to migrate images. It seems such a basic need that anyone transferring a blog would want to do, to not support it is pretty surprising.

the export is simply database content.. nothing else. Images are files. They are two very completely different things.

If you want files, you need to download them.

I too want to accomplish this and found the following plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hot-linked-image-cacher/

I am not sure if it’s 2.5.1 compatible however!

    Cheers!
