Support » Plugin: Add Meta Tags » Image is being resized – and is too small

  • Resolved AlexGoodall

    Hello George

    I am providing a featured image on my home page that is 1200 x 630 – which is the recommended size, I believe.

    However, the image in the og:image property has been reduced to 300 x 158

    The FB debugger is complaining about that because it’s less than 200×200, and the actual image used when sharing is a cropped version of my header image – which doesn’t look good.

    Is there a way round this?

    Hello Alex,

    Add-Meta-Tags, by default, does not use the full size of the uploaded image in the generated meta tags. I have received lots of feedback about this, so this behavior might be changed in future releases.

    The used image size can be customized by adding the following code to your theme’s functions.php or in a custom plugin.

    function amt_use_full_image_size_in_all_meta_tags( $size ) {
        return 'full';
    add_filter( 'amt_image_size_index', 'amt_use_full_image_size_in_all_meta_tags', 10, 1 );
    add_filter( 'amt_image_size_content', 'amt_use_full_image_size_in_all_meta_tags', 10, 1 );
    add_filter( 'amt_image_size_attachment', 'amt_use_full_image_size_in_all_meta_tags', 10, 1 );

    This will result in using the full image size of the images when generating the image links for the metadata on the index/front page, content and attachments pages.

    Any potential future changes in the plugin’s default behavior about this will be 100% compatible with this configuration technique.

    Soon, I’ll be re-organizing the FAQ section on these pages and add information about this issue as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,

    The images have been set to ‘full’ by default. I’ve been receiving many requests for this change and it has now been implemented.

    Forgot to mention. This will be available in 2.7.3 which will be released very soon.
