Image Handling – suggestions

  • it seems to me that the image handling abilities in WP have suffered some serious shortcomings for far too long and i am sure there are many who would would like to see them addressed

    the problem…
by default, WP generates multiple images from images uploaded to the gallery and since many/most/all of the additional sizes may not ever be used, they serve no tangible purpose and thus are a complete waste of resources, including valuable disk space

    the solution…
new image sizes should be generated only when an image is added to WP content and the user chooses a size that is different from the original

all image attributes (alt, title, etc.) other than width and height should be copied from the original image by default

    Yes, I think so.

the other major item i forgot to mention is adding the missing ability to organize content in the media gallery by user-defined folders from the UI

I second that – most crunched images are never used – what a waste of space! As for organizing – a neat solution would be the ability to assign single or multiple categories for images. This would make arranging and finding the appropriate images much easier!
