Support » Requests and Feedback » Image handling in WP is confusing and complicated

  • Unless I’m missing something here, I find that WP’s handling of images is very clunky. I’m coming off of several years of working with CMS Made Simple, and coming back around to WP. I like it, with this exception.

Here’s how the ‘Gallery’ module/plugin works on CMSMS – you upload photos to ‘uploads/Gallery’ (including subfolders etc) and it generates galleries using that hierarchy (ie: Gallery/horses/Arabians means that you have a main gallery, a subgallery called ‘horses’ and a subgallery below that called ‘Arabians’). You call it on any page by typing {Gallery}. That’s it. That simple.

In WP, every plugin I’ve tried makes me add photos to a post, then call the post up, configure the plugin, and then figure out how to call it on my page. This is a lot of extra work and seems unnecessary from the end user’s point of view.

Please tell me I’m missing something and that there’s a plugin that can grab photos from a folder and put it in a gallery on my page. I’ve lost a lot of time looking this up, downloading and installing plugins, etc…I run about 30 sites and they will all need something like this if/when they get moved over to WP. Thanks for listening. I’d appreciate any advice/leads/info you can provide!

  • Update: NextGEN is the best I’ve found, so I’m going with that for now. I’d still appreciate any insight anyone has on this…

Update #2: NextGEN is the closest thing to CMS Made Simple’s ‘Gallery’ module – just posting this for any future CMSMS vagabonds…
