Support » Plugins » Image gallery in WP 1.5

  • Hi group,

    I’ve toyed a bit with WP1.2 and now installed 1.5 – I won’t look back, that’s for sure!

Anyway, I’ve got approx. 3.000 images taken with mobile phones and digital cameras. I’d like to integrate those images/albums into WP1.5 somehow – it needs to show multiple thumbnails, give the possibility to move to (->next) and (<-prev) image and a bit more – nothing fancy.

What do you guys use? Are there any plugins available? Or should I integrate it otherwise, and create a seperate page for it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Anders

  • i would do cartwheels if someone can build what Anderton describes.

Anderton, what do you mean by “Drag and drop plug in” ? 🙂

My plugin is in the state now:
    – Fully integrated with wp-admin.
    – Fairly simple.
    – Thumbnails in posts is what im working on right now, its working for my test, but im not releasing it untill I have finished the pages/posts issue…

“it would also be better if the folders could reside “outside” of the main photo gallery directory”
What do you mean about that rvblog?

So whats the best gallery so far? since there are plenty? Which is more friendly with the wordpress? and more like a wordpress gallery!

    @rummanddan:

Every photo gallery software that I have tried so far requires that you upload your photos to a folder or folders located inside of the program’s main folder.

    example:
    photoprogram/uploads/florida/beach 01.jpg etc etc
    photoprogram/uploads/texas/fiesta 01.jpg etc etc

I would like to be able to create an “uploads” folder in the root directory on the server (or any other directory that I choose).

    example:
    uploads/florida/beach 01.jpg etc etc
    uploads/texas/fiesta 01.jpg etc etc

And then have the photo program get the photos from that folder in the root directory and create thumbnails in a folder inside of the photo program folder.

    example:
    photoprogram/albums/florida/thumb_beaches 01.jpg etc etc
    photoprogram/albums/texas/thumb_fiesta 01.jpg etc etc

This would create more flexibility and leave your upload folder clean, organized, and intake.

    I see your point rvblog… 🙂

Anyone had luck running Simple PHP Gallery on a 1.5 install? The site says it is only tested for 1.2. Just curious…

I merely made an images category and post the images in posts.

I tried messing with RumGallery and couldn’t get it to work. You can see it in action here:

    http://damnablog.com/photos.php

If you click on the Error message you are taken to a page with pics and folders. But the whole thing is displayed off the end of the page and the alignment of the header logo is off.

    Strange – any suggestions?

I’ve been successful in getting Simple PHPG going on my site: http://www.juicygeography.co.uk/blog/wp-gal/ I don’t know the first thing about coding but found the instructions from Shayne Sweeny very helpful. The only issue I’ve experienced, apart from the need to keep the photos under 480px wide to stop them overlappingn the sidebar is that the sp descriptions ini text file is quite fiddly to complete and I can’t get the descriptions of some of the pictures to appear.

Worked first time out – finally, a gallery that shows up inside my WordPress theme!

webwide, sure it was rumgallery you tried out?

Yes, definitely RumGallery – I probably deactivated the plugin by the time you checked that link. I think I deleted the directory those photos were in too…..

But I could never get it to work, sorry. :o(

You linket to a page called photos.php 🙂

Thats not included in rumgallery webwide 🙂 And as I checked it, it was xGallery I recall that was shown in the “signature” 🙂

Im kinda dissapointed you couldnt get it to work, i have worked against that you just have to install and activate, and then its running, so I have to get back to the fixing part 🙂

My main goal is simplicity as well for installation and for the use…

I tried xGallery as well, perhaps that particular page was indeed xGallery. But I downloaded RumGallery again and replaced/overwrote its pages on my site, activated the plugin and attempted to change the image directory – got a chmod error indicating Line 97 of gallery.php – changed all directory and files involved to chmod 777 – still no go, and in fact my site is now completely down!
