Image Compression

    Image compression is making some detailed images look ratty on our site, e.g., when they have fine detail. I’ve tried many different approaches, even adding a php snippet with the plugin, SMNTCS Deactivate Image Compression. Maybe I got the php wrong even tho I copied it from a help forum. Of course I don’t want to edit the theme php file which has the potential for trashing our site and, maybe, being overwritten during an update. I’ve also tried uploading high resolution .png files with no luck. Maybe there are confounding issues between WP actions and Twenty Twelve that would cause excessive compression and / or result in my custom php failing?
