It seems really simple, but I’m stuck on the part about configuring the web server. I don’t know what Apache or Sginx is, or where to configure the server. I’m with Bluehost.

Also I’ve stored my media files here: ‘https://exampledomain.com/example2/example3’, and am wondering if this plugin would still work since it’s no longer stored in ‘/wp-content/uploads’?

You need to find out from Bluehost whether they use Apache or Nginx or something else.

If it’s Apache, then there are instructions for this plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/private-uploads/#installation which tell you how to put the relevant rules into a .htaccess file.

Nginx doesn’t have an equivalent to .htaccess files, so you’d need access to the main server configuration files. You’d need to ask Bluehost if that’s possible.

    I hope that helps.

I asked them and they said they run on Apache. Thank you for your help, the instructions worked 🙂
