There is is some hang or tricky business about getting plugins to show up as Widgets under Appearance).

I installed several Facebook plugins. None showed up as a widget that I could drag into the Sidebar. Then I just installed one last Facebook plug in which I guess was some sort of “main” or over-arching Facebook plugin – and suddenly all of the previously installed Facebook plugins showed up as Widgets (under Appearance) and could then be dragged into the Sidebar.

Same sort of thing with iFrame.

I’ve installed and activated this iframe plug in:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/iframe/

    as well as several others.

None are showing up as Widgets (in Appearance).

    What gives?

  • Doesn’t look like that plugin shows up under widgets – it says the shortcode can be used in page or post content:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/iframe/installation/

Not all plugins are related to widgets or show up in widgets – it depends on the plugin.

    What is short code?

Can the above be pasted into a Text Widget and then drag the Text Widget into the Sidebar?

    So complicated:

Still, here is someone who got it working:

a functional Youtube video displayed in the Sidebar…

Asking for suggestions / instructions on how to achieve the above result.

    Thanks

No. Pasting the short code into a Text widget and dragging it into the Sidebar doesn’t work. I’m missing important steps? Ug!

You don’t need a plugin to put a video in a text widget – just get the embed code from the YouTube page and put that in a text widget on your site. You may need to adjust the size of the video, however.

I don’t know if it is a problem with the Theme Thea by theme Alley or what.

I go to the Youtube Video, click share, copy the code, past it into a Text Widget in the sidebar. All that shows up when I click “view site” it the embedded code as a string of text (path). There is no video to be seen, unlike the site above where the person got the video to show up.

Will the embed only work for Posts? I’m trying to embed the video in the Sidebar.

I just tested it on that theme before posting my last post – worked no problem. But are you using the embed code? Under share – click on embed (next to “share this video”) – and copy that code – you’ll see that it already has the iframe HTML in it.
