If I use permalinks my feed wont work? (11 posts)

    Can anyone help?

    When I set the permalinks to /%post_id&/%postname%/ then it changes the way the links look to the website.

    It was like this;

    http://www.mywebsite.com/blog/?feed=rss2

    Now it is like this;

    http://www.mywebsite.info/blog/feed/

    What I'm finding most frustrating is, that I can't validate my blog with validator. And I can't submit the feed if it won't validate.
    Am I missing a step that will make my feed validate using permalinks.

    Thanks David

    Is WP able to write to .htaccess? Its not only your feeds that do not work.

    As for as I know? I have the permissions set at 666.
    Is WP suposed to write something in the .htaccess file?
    When I go look the .htaccess file is empty.
    Is there something i can just put in the access file myself?

    The site is http://www.tanning-facts.info

    Is there any dis-advantages to using

    http://www.mywebsite.com/blog/?feed=rss2

    I would like to submit the rss to some directory's this
    weekend.

    The only disadvantage would be that ?feed=rss2 isn't actually returning a feed - it's redirecting to your main page.

    I'd lose the custom permalinks and the .htaccess file and try it without.

    I have deleted .htaccess file and taken the permalinks out and am back to the begining. I just end up with
    http://www.tanning-facts.com/blog/?feed=rss2
    again.
    How can I get my blog to return a feed so I can submit it to directory's.

    Thanks tomhanna,

    It was sugested that I use permalinks:
    This is what they said;

    If you look at one of your blog posts at the
    moment you will see that the link to the
    posts look a little like this:

    http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/?p=2

    This is not good for the search engines.
    Dynamic content pages (i.e. ones with a ?
    in) are not as favored as static pages so
    wouldn’t it be much better if the links looked
    like this:

    http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/1/the-titleof-your-post/

    So I was trying to use permalinks to get these results.
    I am able to get the permalink to change the way the link looks but then, well I loose the rss validation.

    Thanks anyway. I will keep trying to figure it out.

    You have been given some bad info. Your site will be indexed just fine. All my CG-Amazon links are that way and I get hits from Google like crazy.

    Yeah, the idea is that it will give you keywords in the URL, but it's not worth the hassle, IMNSHO. I get keyword traffic I don't even want without it.
