• WOuld you recommend me to use separate domains as sales pages? My domain is x.com and I bought additional domains containing keywords x-y.com and would like to link them as sales pages of my x.com site so they also work as landing pages due to the SEO effect of the domain name. How would you go about with that? I never read about that anywhere. Only know that to have a landing page, a domain with the KWs is essential. SO I wished to combine those minisites with x.com.

An example: I have x.com. I have another domain, x-y.com which is a good keyword which I’d wish to optimise for, as the word “x” is too competitive. HOwever that keyword is not in x.com, the domain name. SO thats why I bought the other x-y.com.

Now I have to choose between these scenaries for x.com which by now has around 10 posts so still not so many though long:

    1) On x.com I keep the static homepage and optimise for the keyword xy, (without using the keyword tag). Then have the subdomain/folder x.com/x-y/ as the dynamic post holder. I wonder if that is as good as the domain x-y.com (since x is just repeated two times). I also consider using the static name “x-y” instead of year in the permalinks for all the posts, in order to optimise the url without too many unneccesary numbers. DO you know if that is advisable? SOmeone wrote, that could be done but everyone knows that <post_name> or <tag> or <categories> placed first in the pretty permalinks will make the site slow when having more than 20 pages. I read several places that a not numeric url part would cause problems. In one other post however he said that /some name/ (a static name….like x-y) could be used as well.

    2) I make a navigation menu point called “x’es” in x.com and then in all the submenu points I point to the other domain called x-y.com. But then it might be better perhaps to use x-y.com straight away instead of focusing on x.com. However I like x.com. It’s easy to remember (well x-y too but with less theme story: The x.com is actually x-something.com with something not being a keyword). But I want quick results, not nostalgy (I wasted several precious years with another site solution… I smelled it at the beginning but if you are no champion you have to believe their arguments…they “sold the site solution” well).

Perhaps I should write about another thing than x-y on x.com which is the case so far and then make a link from the home page to x-y.com where then all the posts about x’es, as well as a category navigation bar, are shown as excerpts on the home page. I am quite in the dark as to what would work. I just don’t want to write great interesting texts but not have a chance in h…. of getting on the first pages of google for some pages, due to domain name issues 🙂 I think you get my point.

I think I could win the competition for x-y if I use the domain but I don’t know if I can use x.com/x-y/. I know the homepage/index page has a higher ranking emphasis than subfolders/pages. So the problem is that optimising and trying to win the race for the KW “x-y” on the home page of x.com, (which obviously has only x as the keyword), would not be a good idea since the word “y” is lacking.

    COuld you advice me please?

    3) ALso a part of my current challenge is to have the posts on the main page /the index page since the posts is where the main part of the text will be and I’d wish to have that juicing up my ranking. As is now I have a static home page. HOwever I am not sure if that static home page is ranked higher than the posts page called “blog” in the menu in x.com. I have this doubt since I don’t know if the index file still follows the posts page and if the index file is the determinator for which page gets the highest priority by the search engines.

SO you see I have several “existentialistic” problems. I hope you could get me going in the right direction since the initiation is the most precarious part of building a site. I want to found it on rock.

Hope someone can help me 🙂
