Support » Themes and Templates » IE problem – (Pasting from Word not the issue)

  • I got everything on my site looking exactly the way I want in Firefox, and it’s a complete disaster in Internet Explorer. I know typically this is due to users pasting from Word, but this is definitely not the issue, as it’s all messed up even if I don’t have any posts published.

    I’ve also validated the CSS and there are no errors at all.

    Here is the site:

    Any help would be really appreciated.

  • This meta tag is totally broken , copy and paste this code :

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

    krembo, thanks for lending a hand here. just tried though, and it’s not working. here’s what that entire header.php file.looks like:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “

    <html xmlns=””>

    <head profile=”″>
    <meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=EmulateIE7″ />

    <title><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?> <?php if ( is_single() ) { ?> » Blog Archive <?php } ?> <?php

    wp_title(); ?></title>

    <meta name=”generator” ” />

    <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”<?php bloginfo(‘stylesheet_url’); ?>” type=”text/css” media=”screen” />
    <link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS 2.0″ href=”<?php bloginfo(‘rss2_url’); ?>”

    <link rel=”alternate” type=”text/xml” title=”RSS .92″ href=”<?php bloginfo(‘rss_url’); ?>” />
    <link rel=”alternate” type=”application/atom+xml” title=”Atom 0.3″ href=”<?php bloginfo(‘atom_url’); ?

    >” />
    <link rel=”pingback” href=”<?php bloginfo(‘pingback_url’); ?>” />

    <?php wp_get_archives(‘type=monthly&format=link’); ?>

    <?php wp_head(); ?>

    <div id=”page”>
    <div id=”header”>

    your code is a mess…
    and I am not talking only about what you posted here , that should look like this :

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "
    <html xmlns="">
    <head profile="">
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
    <title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?> <?php if ( is_single() ) { ?> ยป Blog Archive <?php } ?> <?php wp_title(); ?></title>
    <meta name="generator" " />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>"/>
    <link rel="alternate" type="text/xml" title="RSS .92" href="<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom 0.3" href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />
    <?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly&format=link'); ?>
    <?php wp_head(); ?>
    <div id="page">
    <div id="header">

    I am talking about your WHOLE PAGE…
    you have empty divs, wrong classes and wrong positioning .
    all due (provbably) to the fact that you have edited the css and xhtml without really knowing how …
    Now, I am not at all against trying .. but IE is notoriously against it .
    so you will need to take some time to fix the code , close tags, delete un-neccessary ones etc, until IE will be content .
    I will be happy to help you as soon as I will find some time .
    (at least try from the css, because some stuff need to be done on the template file itself… )

    Due to bad code you force IE into quirks mode.

    Please create correct xhtml.

    krembo, i really appreciate the help. and you’re 100% right. I am not a design expert by any means. i have a decent handle on the syntax, but only really enough to take existing templates and make changes until i see the result i’m going for (which is exactly what i did here)

    if you could lend a hand that would be greatly appreciated. let me know if you think it would be best for me to past the code in here for the files i edited (only edited header.php, index.php, sidebar.php, and style.css)

    pboosten, that’s really helpful. i used a different validator and it gave me a clean bill. i’ll get cracking on instituting these changes.

    after you will validate your page, if you still have problems , post here again and I will look at the page and try to solve the problem
