IE/ Firefox inconsistencies....need help :( (8 posts)

I am not much of a php-, css-, or any other kind of computer whizzkid.

I am using the new e-commerce plugin and I am having three little problems. Eveything works very nicely in Firefox but IE is giving me headaches. I would very much appreciate it if someone can help me out here.

The 'more details' button doesn't seem to work in Internet Explorer. ( http://www.urbanestyles.nl/?page_id=3&category=4 )

Whenever you add products to the shopping cart (winkelwagen) and continue to 'kassa' (checkout) you will notice that the checkout box breaks out.

The layout in Internet Explorer is being altered by the plugin, but just a bit.

    any help is welcome!

I am using the BLIX theme

    [mod: moved code to pastebin.com]

oye - please don't post long code like that.
go to http://pastebin.com and put the code in, and then link it here.

we can also get the css from when you post the URL most times, so there's little need to post it at all. :)

that's okay - i figured your "newness" was the culprit ;)
just wanted to let you know for the future :)
    no worries.

http://www.urbanestyles.nl/?page_id=3&category=4#%20class= is what you have the link "more details" pointing to. that doesn't seem right to me, how did you choose that? where do you want it to actually go??

i don't think it's the plugin that's altering the layout in IE - it's the fact that IE is a horrid browser ;) - one thing I noticed is that you have a "categories" in the upper left hand corner, and even on firefox, the image of the bottle and it's description are falling below it. but the issue with the display of white space between the bottle and the paragraph have to do with the differences in IE and FF. if either one looks functional, then i personally don't see much need to waste time trying to make them look identical. "If it ain't broke..."

Bottom line is that people who view the site in IE will always view it in IE and those who view it in FF will always view it in FF - so the inconsistency, while noticable to YOU as the developer testing in multiple browsers, will hardly be noticed by the site's visitors - as long as everything's WORKING properly.

    does that make sense?

i guess i've long given up on trying to make sites look identical cross-browser, and started focusing on making sure they look good and function properly in all browsers.

Thanks for your reply. You are absolutely right, I only focus on making sure things function properly in all browsers as well. The problem is some things don't :(

I didn't choose http://www.urbanestyles.nl/?page_id=3&category=4#%20class= it is something the developers of this plugin made. The 'meer informatie' link works very nicely in FF but when clicking the link in IE absolutely nothing happens. I, as a layman, would think it has something to do with this part: 4#%20class=

As for the layout errors, some things do seem broke in horrid IE ;) Check this out:
those solid lines appear on every page, so something in my theme layout css must cause this.

and the checkout box shouldn't overlap the sidebar here (it doens't in FF):

are you kidding me? i've NEVER seen anything like those lines!!! wow...

i clicked that link in 'meer informatie' FF and got nothing... although it might be my script blocker that prevented that... i dunno.

i'm thinking there are issues with the plugin... maybe contact the developer? wish i could help further... i just have no clue.

I seem to have solved the lines in an accidental and very unsatisfactory fashion, I changed the padding and the margin of the shopping cart and all of a sudden the lines were gone :) Well if it works....
1 down two to go :)

can someone maybe have a look at this:

and have a look at the style.php. The problem occurs in IE not in FF and it is bugging me :(
