  • Hello everyone, I have a concern rather annoying.

Here the administrator of my site display their nickname as the name displayed plubliquement.
But I’ve realized that if a member used the nickname of my admin as is firstname and it showed this firstname as the name displayed publicly, I met a kind of identity theft. Rather annoying.

    How can I do?

    thank you!

Can you give an example of what you mean?

My site is about MMORPG. So the majority of users use nicknames.
Imagine my admin have the nickname Bobby.
A member with the nickname Mike subscribe to my site.

Mike goes into his profile and decides to use Bobby as name.
He then chose to display this name as the name shown publicly.

So when Mike comment on something, the nickname will be displayed Bobby.

My admin use Bobby as the name shown publicly. So if he comment, the nickname will be displayed Bobby. This could create hugely conflicts.

Aren’t you using another means of identifying yourself as an admin? For example on these forums I could change my display name to “Andrew” but I still have my status “Volunteer Moderator” underneath my name.

My admin use Bobby as the name shown publicly. So if he comment, the nickname will be displayed Bobby. This could create hugely conflicts.

What conflicts other than two people with the same name?

For example, someone could easily pass for one of my admins. if there is a lot of comments. No there is not a way to restrict the ability of public display name choice?
For example, since you can not even have 2 nicks on a site, I would leave the default name of the user as shown publicly name and I do not have to change the name would authorize shown publicly.

    Is this possible?

(Sorry for my English 😉 )

Can you also link to a page that has comments (other than the author)?

    Here’s your comment is approved.

Yes that is a bit rubbish.

Can you ask your theme’s vendors to put a class into the author’s comments? Then you can just use CSS to style authors differently.

Okay I’ll watch with them 🙂

Thank you very much for your advice and your time!

    I will see that ! Thanks !
