Icon overlay to thumbnail preview vs result

    Hi,

    I’ve recently noticed that the preview of the post thumbnail with the play button icon overlay doesn’t match the actual result image. Preview looks great, but the result thumbnail image has ‘play button’ way smaller than it should be, making it look disproportionately small.

    Is this a known behavior? Is there a way to make the result image match the preview?

    Hello @woorooo,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

    Our plugin adds the play icon with the correct size to the image. However, social media sites can change the resolution of the image in the link preview, and the size of the play icon will also be changed with that. If you check the images you have shared, not only the play button, but the size of the whole image is different. It has a wide resolution which is making the play button small.

    The images you see above are not from the social media sites, these are from the Rankmath plugin directly from the website.

    Rankmath preview box and the result with applied play button in the media library. It’s not from the social media preview or post. Just test it.

    If you want to make sure that the image shows the same everywhere you need to adhere to the size of 1200×630 pixels.

    Hi, is there a filter hook that will allow to choose a different image size from available ones for the social image thumbnail with play button overlay icon?

    No, at the moment that cannot be changed with a filter. In this case, you need to adhere to the sizing we recommended above.
