When hosting with wordpress, there is a security option to allow only logged-in users to see the blog.

If hosting on one's own server this doesn't to be an explicit option as in

    WordPress (hosted with wordpress)

    Blog visibility:

    Options available

1 I would like my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Sphere, and in public listings around WordPress.com.
    2. I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

    3. I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose

Up to 35 users allowed to access blog. Want more?
    Username:

    WordPress (hosted on own site)

    Blog visibility:

    Options available

    1. I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers

    2. I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

How does one achieve the same effect (of making the blog invisible to non-registered users. in a self-hosted wordpress blog.

The 3rd option (As it appears in a wordpress-hosted blog) doesn't appear to exist.

If its not possible even confirmation of that fact will be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your advice and guidance.

Your very earliest reply most appreciated.

search wp-plugins.net for privacy, private, hide, etc. There are several ways to accomplish this... sort of.

    Thanks for the input.

I find it a bit strange that a feature available in the wordpress hsoted version of the software, as standard, isn't available in the homehosted version.

You don't happen to have a direct link to any of these pluiug-ins do you?

The sort of..sounds a bit ..interesting...

Can anyone tell me the plugin used that's depicted here? This is the exact functionality that I want for my blogs.

I too am interested in this! I need to hide everything on the blog except from registered users... and this blog is hosted on my site.

I didn't find any WP-endorsed privacy-related plugins that would do what besaprocurement mentioned (that the hosted WP offers to wp users) except on:

    http://wp-plugins.net/?filter=privacy

There's one there that's perfect... anyone use?

I found a plugin that seems to be working. It is called The WordPress Password Plugin and can be found at http://broome.us/archives/2007/01/31/the-wordpress-password-plugin/

    Good Luck
