Front page template of this theme doesn’t have a sidebar widget area located on the side, it has 2 sidebar widget areas located in the footer.
In WP, sidebar is not a location, it’s just a template name.
It’s better not to call it sidebar. Call it widget, and name the location.
On the dashboard underneath
Appearance > Widgets
What are the sidebars listed? In the 2012 theme, the homepage (even if static page) has a right hand sidebar next to the content. If the sidebar is not active, then the content stretches to full width of the page.
It appears as tho you have not set the sidebar so content is stretching to full width.
Ha! I was wondering if I was asking a stupid question. It does come as a surprise (as so many things do, to the ignorant) as the theme’s own preview has a sidebar on the side, no widgets at the bottom, and I must have skipped over the bit of taxt that explained where the custom front page widgets would show up…
That does explain why there is two of them.

Evan, thanks for responding, but these 2 answers seem to contradict one another. I think I’m not going to worry about it though, as the upshot is still I have 3 widget position options. Now I just have to figure out why none of the slideshow widgets I’ve tried have worked, but thats clearly for another thread…

Hi, can anubody advise as to how to add a widgetised sidebar to the right side of the Front Page template? So that it would have the two sidebars below the main content, and one on the right like the standard layout? Thanks.
