  • You’ll want to export your current pages and import them into your new WP install with your new theme using the WordPress importer. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-importer/

This will keep your content and URLs the same, provided you keep the structure consistent in the “permalinks” settings.

Actually, changing theme won’t affect site URL.

Unless your current theme has Custom Post Type registered in its function but your new theme doesn’t have that function. In this case, you won’t be able to access the CPT in your site with new theme, but the content and URL structure is still there.

So can i change the theme and than just fix the pages? The data and url’s stay the same?

URL of posts/ pages will stay the same. Changing theme won’t effect URL at all. The problem is something else, like reassign widgets, custom menu, etc.

I remember there are plugins that allow you to preview theme without activating it, you might try that.

For the best, do what right for a live site, any changes should be tested in development first, so I would install a local dev and make changes until I got it right, then make changes to the live site.
