I want to add custom upload fields. Does this exist?

I’m looking to add custom upload fields to the admin menu, similar to how the new thumbnails feature works. Essentially, I just want to give files that are being uploaded some sort of metadata that I can pull from. For instance, I want to have a field to upload an “Article Image”. Essentially this is just like the post thumb, except I don’t want it to be a thumb size. Yes I know I can change the thumb sizes to whatever, but I want a custom field that I can adjust the label so as not to confuse my writers. Also I kinda want a field where they could upload a video or audio file that would have a specific label of articleVid, or podcastFile.

Does anything out there exist that gives you this ability? Unfortunately I’m not adept enough at php to write my own plugin.yet.
