I went to log into my wordpress tonight and found I couldn’t.
There were 2 admins on my site. Both had been deleted. Thanks to a quick google search and Phpmyadmin I was able to convert a subscriber into an admin and gain access again.
My questions are:
1) I can access my dashboard. But how do I make sure it doesn’t happen again? I’m not hardcore techy, but would like to add an extra level of security to my wordpress site if possible.
2) I had already upgraded to WordPress3 before this happened. Is there any script of ‘footprints’ I should check for that would let me know if this was a hack, or just some crazy plugin/code mess up.
3) Also, all of my 100+ blog posts and pages now say: Posted by: Joe Bloggs <I’ve made up a name, but the name on the posts is the name of the last user to subscribe>. Was this because my details were deleted and wordpress defaulted to using the details of the last person to subscribe? Whatever the cause – How do I change it back to my name? The original author. Is there a way to do it, without having to update every single page?
Hey, I just want to say, all replies are welcome and thanks in advance for your help on this one. I use my wordpress blog to make my living, having been compromised like this has left me feeling really vulnerable.
I’m off to bed now (it’s 22:25 here in the UK). I’ll check in first think tomorrow.
