• So here’s my problem. I had my blog running on a test server. I then registered a new domain name, set up a new hosting account, installed WordPress on the new account, and copied all content from my test server to the new server under the new domain name. That worked. Then I uninstalled WordPress and deleted all of my blog content on my test server…and that’s when my blog on my new site reverted back to the default blog you get when you first install WordPress. I logged into my account to see what was going on and all of my content had disappeared.

The strange (and reassuring) part is that I can see my files on the new server just where I put them, but for some reason WordPress can not access them. After digging around in the forums I discovered that I was apparently supposed to move the database as well as the content. I’m guessing that my blog was still accessing the database on my old server. I still have all the content, so is there any way to “move” that into the new database, or connect it to the database, or whatever (I’m really showing my technical lameness!)? Please give any answers in absolute laymen’s terms since I have no idea what I’m doing 😉

    Thanks!

Thanks. I tried setting the url for ‘siteurl’ and ‘home’ back to the old one, but that gave me a database error. I figured that wouldn’t work anyway since I’m pretty sure I deleted the original database. And I’m not sure what .htaccess is or where to find it. If I did delete my original database, but still have the content, do I need to recreate my blog from scratch or is there a way to integrate the content with the new database. Sorry for my crude questions, this stuff is out of my league.

did you check if you still have database in myphpadmin
as you can only delete database from mysql you can not delete in file manager.

The database is there, but it’s the new one that was created when I installed WP on the new host server. I’m assuming the old one is gone since I uninstalled WP from the previous server deleting all core files. When I go to my blog I see the default blog that comes with a fresh WP install, I just don’t see MY actual blog pages. I’ve checked wp-config.php, wp_options…I feel like there’s just one setting somewhere that needs to change.

If you have backup then you can create a database and upload your backup and change database information in wp-config.php and it needs updated you will be prompted to upgrade your database.
