A different modlook to the one that closed my thread!

I just posted in the help section and a mod decided that he would not remove my url from the OP as it is now part of the community! I can see no VALID reason for him to just close the topic while I am asking a valid question. The URL gives nothing extra to the thread!

I’m a new member to these forums and do not appreciate the attitude received tonight. I take it that this thread will be removed and I will be banned for such insolence.

My thread was asking for help and the url pointed to that problem. I was prepared to leave the post entirely intact but remove the link ‘he’ decided to leave it in and close the thread while I was attempting to put my point across I guess to just aggravate me!!

Not a great first impression of wordpress.org

Anyone on the staff care to respond in an adult fashion? I doubt I will get to read it after this anyway.

  • Actually I am a “she”. And I pointed you to the the relevant entry on the Forum Rules page. When you still insisted, I quoted the relevant section for you – yet you still insisted. Since the discussion was going nowhere, I closed the thread.

FYI, a url is not considered sensitive information and is not a compelling reason to edit a post. I am sorry you do not agree with this is but is is explained quite clearly in http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome

I apologise for calling you a ‘he’ You state that the discussion was going nowhere well that is your opinion and you have ‘the power’ I guess.

I did read the relevant section and if I had been a little quicker I could have removed the URL myself. I think you are being very stubborn not removing the link and would like to speak to a supervisor!

It would take only a second for you to remove and we could both go about our business.

I know that this will not happen unless someone else does it for me though.

Please do not close this thread until someone else from wordpress.org staff looks at it. Although I’m sure that you will believe it is going nowhere.

    Regards

I think you are being very stubborn not removing the link and would like to speak to a supervisor!

There are no supervisors and there are no “wordpress.org staff”. These forums are staffed by volunteers. Also the forums’ policies and guidelines are clearly outlined in the document I linked to above. Whilst we would like people to read that page before posting, if they do not, there isn’t a great deal we can do about it. The policies still stand. Other have requested this before you and – with the exception of a few extreme cases – have been refused. Your case is not extreme.

As a fellow moderator, I’ll back up esmi on this.

We do not delete posts, or remove links, unless there is an exceptional circumstances. I think the last one I did was legal reasons, and before that someone was harassing someone else.

If you don’t want something on the internet, don’t put it out there.

In your case, the link provided shows the page you wanted to change, and helps people see WHAT you wanted to change, so it is beneficial to the next person who comes along and wants to see ‘Hey, is he having the same problem I did?’

It doesn’t hurt your site to have it linked, it won’t mess with your SEO, and it doesn’t look unprofessional.

There’s no reason to delete it.

Well you would have a valid point ‘IF’ the thread had been left open and actually helped people by concluding with a resolution to my problem, but as it is now closed then to leave it in place actually would compound the problem for people looking for a fix to the same problem. I could have found a solution later on and posted the fix ‘IF’ the thread was left open.

I’m not really that bothered about the link but just closing threads because a moderator wants to dot the “i’s” and cross the “t’s” is not conducive at all to creating a helpful reference base in my humble opinion.

We close topics when they wander off-topic to the point of making the post useless fairly often. Getting into a nit-picking argument about forum policy is off-topic in that post (it’s fine here).

I’ve reopened the topic (removing the last three posts) since I’m for giving you the benefit of the doubt. If you do have a fix, please do post it for the next guy. If you just want to vent about how you don’t like forum policy, though, I’ll close it again.

Spoken like a true tutelary, It was not my intention to get into a vent regarding forum policy and I will find a solution eventually and post it for others to use as a reference.

I suspect being Jewish excludes me from any possible sainthood 😉

You didn’t mean to vent, but any time a back-and-forth picks up on the Internet, it becomes one, where third parties (like me!) jump in and fob off our opinions. Hence I’m assuming good faith here.

PS: Don’t sign your posts either 😉 It is, also, against the forum guidelines.

And with a grandfather with the name Klein it would for me too 😉

I will try harder. And read the rules in more depth too. No offence was meant.
