Support » Fixing WordPress » I reinstalled and the format is wierd.

  • Hi, I was messing with putting plugins into my blog and it got all fussy so I deleted it and then redid the config file and uploaded a new one. Now it looks all wonky and won’t format right. It’s at http://www.brepettis.com/wordpress any ideas to help me get it back to looking pretty? I tried to do the /wordpress/wp-admin/post.php thing, but it asks me to wipe my database first. Is there anyway to reinstall without having to redo the database?
    Thanks,
    Bre

  • Note: I should have said that I deleted the whole wordpress folder and downloaded a new one. Not just the config file!

Is the file ‘wp-layout.css’ correctly uploaded onto the server ?

    It is.

I can see the source code wants to gran the css, but it can’t.
If I try to see it, I get a 403 Forbidden error.
Can you see what it’s file permissions are ? And alter them to 666 ?

well now I changed it to 666 and it won’t load at all.

There seems to be some strange server behaviour going on – if we can’t see the css – by a direct link – then neither can the browser, which is why there is no styling.

I think I figured it out it was a settings thing.
When I set the file permissions, I did that to the wordpress file which didn’t like being set to 666 so not its set to 755. Then I went into the wordpress file and set everything to 755 which seems to work.
Am I doing ok? What are the best settings for different kinds of files?

I keep mine at 755. I only do it because my server recommends. I haven’t had any problems yet.
