    Hello,

    I manage more than 100 WordPress sites with iThemes Security and I usually receive these “file change warning” emails daily, especially after WP/plugin updates.

    But I have not received a single one since March 2, 2018. I think this coincides with an iThemes Security update (maybe 6.9.0, not sure). I currently have the most recent version (6.9.2) on each of these sites.

    Has anyone else observed this problem? How to solve it?

    Note that I manage in parallel another site with a very old version of WordPress (3.4.1) and iThemes Security (4.3.9), and this one stills send me these emails quite normally. So I think it’s not a problem with my inbox.

    I hope to find a solution because it’s a real security problem, I can’t go check the logs of each site, it takes too much time… So for now I just hope nobody took the opportunity to edit my files.

    Edit: I specify that I still receive the other emails (lockouts alerts) without any problem, and that the notification center is correctly configured. File changes are correctly detected in the logs.

    Hello, I just saw that version 7.0.0 is available. Will it fix something related to my issue?

    I’ve just read through the 7.0.0 changelog. Allthough untested yet (in the 7.0.0 release) the totally rewritten File Change Detection scan engine is now included. This has been available for a while in the Pro plugin where emails are properly send. So good chance it will now also work in the free plugin as of the 7.0.0 release.

    I didn’t see anything related to fixing problems with the plugin not properly hooking into WP Cron. In fact that is still an issue in the Pro release. That is, without properly configuring the plugin. If properly configured it works fine.

    So it looks like the ITSEC_USE_CRON constant still needs to be set to true in the wp-config.php file.

    I’ll try and verify this for the 7.0.0 release.

    Hello, I can confirm that I receive the file change mails again after the 7.0.1 update. I will keep “ITSEC_USE_CRON” in wp-config.php files and I will add it on each of my new sites. Thanks a lot for your help !

    Verified yesterday that the ITSEC_USE_CRON constant still needs to be set to true in the wp-config.php file.

    Otherwise you risk losing the 3 iTSec maintenance cron tasks (clear-locks, purge-log-entries, purge-lockouts).

    Though this is more likely to happen in test envs than live envs due to less frequent http requests.

    Oh, I forgot to mention that as of the 6.9.0 release the default value for the Days to Keep Database Logs setting has changed from 14 to 60 days. An important detail I didn’t notice until yesterday. iThemes didn’t bother to include it in the 6.9.0 changelog …

    So whenever I mentioned 14 days in my previous posts it should have read 60 days. Apologies for the confusion this may have caused 😉
