    Hi,

    I need to change the background color of the native WordPress image gallery to black. It appears this is the control for that
    .entry-content

    HOWEVER if I change that to black it also changes the background of the pages type area to black. I can't have that. Need the type area to be white. If it's any help the link is here:

    Thanks I appreciate any suggestions

    depending on what you are trying to target exactly, try to work with:

    .gallery { ... }
    or
    .gallery dl { ... }

    using a browser inspection tool (like Firebug for the Firefox browser_) should help you to investigate the formatting of the gallery.

    there is actually a default css live inspector on firefox (and chrome i just checked, and possibly IE). Open your webpage with firefox, right-click, select "inspect element" or smth like that (im using french version), then a dedicated window opens with the possibility to identfy css of each element and also to modify it live.

    Once you've got the css style you were looking for and the changes you wish to make to it, upload changes to your style sheet.

    So to confirm on the previous answer, the way to go now is to use these css identifiers you find in your browser, either as a default option or as a web developer plugin so you may always be able to find all styles associated with any element on any page.

    I have used chrome inspector... From my testing, I think I will have to use a plugin gallery like jetpack's or something. The native gallery uses some of the page post css. Using the example above:

    .gallery

    I was able to change the background color without affecting my page text area.

    Because I set a padding on

    .entry-content

    to move text away from the container wall

    The white padding area still remains with the native gallery. It uses the same css.

    So I still have the problem of having white where I don't want it. I need the padding for my page text. The native media gallery uses it to when I don't want it to.

    I'm guessing that if I use a different gallery plugin, there will be different css I can target for this area, and eliminating the problem with my page text input area.

    We will see.... I wish WordPress would of gave a little more css control with their native gallery.
