I need help. The plugin has stopped functioning.

For reasons that are not clear the plugin has stopped functioning in my site. There is no error in the browser console. The shortcode I’ve used is the following, which is adhering to the documentation.

I enabled the debug log, and this is what has been logged. I don’t see anything directly related to your plugin. Could it be a known conflict? I am asking before I start debugging by the deactivate-all plugins method.

No, there is no known plugin conflict with print-o-matic.
The warnings being thrown are coming from other plugins… did this just start happening? Which version of PHP is being used? Did the shortcode: [print-me target="#post-%ID%"/] work in the past and suddenly stopped working?
Can a link be shared to the page that exhibits this behaviour?

Indeed, the shortcode used to work and then one day my users reported that it didn’t anymore.

Update:
I started installing older versions of the plugin in hope for some error appearing in the console. I went all the way back to 1.7.14 and there were some errors indeed, but nothing very insightful.

Then I decided to change strategy. I updated to the latest version again, and this time I changed the [print-me target="post-%ID%"] to [print-me target="body"] and this worked. Then I switched back to `post-%ID%’ and this did not work again.

The data-print_target attribute appears to hold the right value (e.g. post-1439) for the post I have been testing this on, and it changes as expected when I inspect the element on different posts.

So we have narrowed it down to that. For the time being I have left it to print the whole body, but I would like to get it fixed, and have it perform like before.

Would you kindly advise further?

We’ll test on our servers and see if we can recreate the issue. Doing this now, will report back shortly.

So, if everything is setup as it should, there is no issue with the %ID% placeholder as demonstrated here:

the issue with the shortcode:
[print-me target="post-%ID%"]
is that it’s targeting an element that looks like this:
<post-1223>some content</post-123>

Most likely it is desired to target an element with a class, or ID of post-123.
Please read the documentation on how to target class and ID elements using . and # selectors.

Please get back to us with your results.

Update: We see that the shortcode was correct at the top of the thread:
[print-me target="#post-%ID%"/]
Please verify if the target element has an ID and not a CLASS like post-123

My bad, I did not copy/paste the shortcode in use, but just (mis)typed it here instead. Duh!

I have been working with the correct format all along. My typo worked for my favor though. I double checked the source code of the page, and epxlicitly searched for all elements including the post ID.

It appears like there exists no element bearing the post-1439 id in my source code. There’s only one class postid-1439 assigned to the body tag, which is worthless, as targeting that would be equivalent to just targeting the body.

I reckon this is an indirect issue with the plugin now. It will never work as long as it is told to fetch something that doesn’t exist in the first place. I will stick with targeting the body for now, until I modify the structure of the page template.
