I have to be missing something with 404 to 301 redirects

Good morning,

I have tried THREE plugins now – redirection – seo redirect – and 404 to 301 and all of them are not working for me. The process seems simple enough so I doubt I am doing anything wrong on my end, but for the life of me I cannot get the correct page to load when I test.

Here is a simple example.
The OLD link
http://www.huntersfriendresort.com/indian-rally-AT-indian-point/
The NEW link
http://www.huntersfriendresort.com/indian-rally-ON-indian-point/

No matter what, it keeps kicking me back to the old broken page.

What am I missing here?

(Yes, I did go to the author’s pages but they all seem to have walked away and no longer responding to requests for help)

I feel like you may have filled out the redirect backwards in the plugin. That’s because when I go to the ON url version, it goes to the AT version. You want it the other way around. The fields in the 301 plugins are not interchangeable.

Sorry, I should have been a little less literal.

Here is a simple example.

I had capitalized the long tail to emphasize the good and the bad. Try these now and you will see the 2nd works fine but the first is dead in the water still

Curious, what is your .htaccess file contents? I’ve never used those plugins but I wonder if they modify the .htaccess file that the rewrite rules were added in the wrong place and are never seen.

I just do mine manually:

RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^indian-rally-at-indian-point/$ indian-rally-on-indian-point/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

```
Otherwise, might go to the support page for whatever plugin you attempt to use.
