Extremely sorry for your inconvenience. In last update we have improved code base and using namespace, which require php v5.3.0+ ( http://php.net/manual/en/language.namespaces.rationale.php ), may you please update your server php version, however if that is not possible, you can get back the previous version from here https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/download-manager.2.8.3.zip .

Thanks for your answer Shaon, i will try to update my server.

I have update the plugin and then i got the following message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in C:\domains\—–\wwwroot\wp-content\plugins\download-manager\download-manager.php on line 12

I changed the version of the plugin for the older one and did an update of the php version to v5.3 but i still have the following message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in C:\domains\—–\wwwroot\wp-content\plugins\download-manager\download-manager.php on line 12

(after removing the plugin completely and a new install, the message disapeared)

    Hi Shaon,

I have PHP 5.4.24 installed(using Bluehost but I am still getting the same above error. The plugin worked fine for few days on the same server but it stopped worked suddenly today.

    Question

If we remove the plugin completely and re-install it, will it keep my uploaded files or all uploads would also get deleted with plugin deletion?

@arslan, in that case you need to contact your server/hosting support.
Yes, you can delete and reinstall plugin, all old data still will be there.
