Support » Plugin: Page Builder by SiteOrigin » I Guess I’m the Idiot in the Bunch

  • I’ve built 4 websites. I’m self-taught in everything I’ve ever done, no clue how to use any CSS or HTML beyond what I’ve needed but I’ve learned to use logic to guess my way through code and figure out what needs to change to get the effect I want. It works for me; I’m a fairly smart person despite my impatience and lack of actual training. I’m basically learning what I need to know about the project I’m doing as I go along. I find this page builder thing completely, utterly inscrutable. I don’t have a CLUE how to use it. Really, none. Every time I try to set up a page with it, it comes out ugly, and not at all like what I intended. I added it because my theme recommended it, called it a “drag and drop” page building solution but it seems like a bunch of boxes that have no visual flow. These boxes are apparently supposed to represent elements I can’t see. I don’t think my brain works this way, maybe that’s what it is. I guess this review should be of me and not the product because it seems like everybody else has figured it out But in MY world… this one’s a goose egg.

    Hi @crackedvesselcom1

Don’t be so hard on yourself 🙂

Page Builder does have a bit of a learning curve, but once you’ve mastered it, then you have some serious power at your fingertips. Especially with the upcoming Page Builder 2.5 release.

If you’re just starting out then the documentation is a good place to check. I’ve recorded a video to guide you through the basics.

I also recommend checking out prebuilt layouts which gives you fully built pages as a starting point and the Live Editor which lets you edit your pages more visually.

If you decide Page Builder isn’t for you, then that’s fine too. There’s nothing wrong with sticking to HTML/CSS or just standard linear pages. We’ve tried to make Page Builder great, but obviously, we can’t make the perfect product for absolutely everyone.

Either way, best of luck with your project.
