Support » Plugins » I don’t have a plug-in tab on my dashboard

  • Hi,

I just started using WordPress and would like to install plug-ins, but I don’t even have a plug-in tab on the dashboard. Do I need to pay to have the option to use plug-ins? Is there any other way to install plug-ins or am I missing a step? Any help would be VERY much appreciated! Thanks!

No need to pay. Please clarify whether you are using WordPress at self-hosted blog OR hosted at yourusername.wordpress.com
In self-hosted blog, go to admin dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New and install.

My address is dogblog56.wordpress.com, so I guess it is hosted by wordpress. The word plug-in isn’t anywhere on my dashboard, so I don’t think it’s a self-hosted blog. It has been very frustrating, but I’m relieved to hear your response. Thank you very much for any information you can provide. Have a great day!

You’ll want to use the support forum over at WordPress.com… but plugins aren’t an option for you when hosted over there.

Oh ok. thank you. How can I get access to plug-ins through my blog. Do I need to convert it into a self-hosted blog? Does anyone have any idea how I could go about doing that? or are there any helpful forums. Thanks to everyone for their help, it is much appreciated!

You need a self-hosted blog to upload your own plugins.

or are there any helpful forums.

This is the forum for self-hosted WordPress blogs. Please read links above first to see if you’re ready to create your own self-hosted blog.
