Support » Plugin: Breadcrumb NavXT » I don’t get it

  • I’m curious…

I have several custom post types, including “Articles”.
And I have several custom taxonomies, including (article) “Type”, “Company”, “Topics”, “Events”, etc.

    On my taxonomy.php template page, I have bcn_display($return = false, $linked = true, $reverse = false, $force = false)

And then I go to http://www.mysite.com/type/viewpoints/

The breadcrumb I see on the page is “My Site > Articles > Viewpoints”

    Why?

Why is there an assumption that “Type” terms like “Viewpoint” can *only* infer we are in “Articles” territory? My “Type” taxonomy is connected to more post types than that.

So it is presumptuous of the plugin to state “My Site > Articles > Viewpoints”. On the taxonomy.php, I intend to show multiple object types connected to the term in question.

    – I’m surprised the breadcrumb for http://www.mysite.com/type/viewpoints/ isn’t actually “My Site > Types > Viewpoints

    – In my case, I’d probably actually prefer “My Site > Viewpoints” or just to hide the site name”Viewpoints”, using breadcrumb more as a page title.

    How can I do these?

    Thanks.

Traditionally, custom taxonomies are associated with a specific primary post type. Breadcrumb NavXT will pick the first post type associated except for when disabling archive display for that post type (will prevent inclusion of the CPT archive breadcrumb). Since WordPress does not have a concept of an archive for all post types, something like “My Site > Types > Viewpoints” is not something that necessarily makes sense (unless you create a multidimensional breadcrumb trail and include all the relevant CPTs in the 2nd dimension for “Types”, an interesting idea but not in the purview of the core plugin).

Currently, the easiest way to remove the CPT archive from the taxonomy archives is to ensure the “Archive Display” for the CPT in question is disabled in the Breadcrumb NavXT settings.

    Ok, thanks.
