Support » Fixing WordPress » I changed the the url in ‘general’ from to http://www.domain.c

  • And since I did that, my site is totally broken. It was totally bone headed. I can get to my site at the http://… but the css is gone as well as broken links. Unfortunately what I cannot do is log into the wordpress back end to change this.

Is there a way to fix this? Can I pull my content out of my database if worse comes to worse and re-install wordpress?

What is the best way to deal with this?

It’s fixable, but you’ll have to access the database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this via their control panel) and change the site URL values. Follow this guide:

The method of resetting your addresses in the database by using phpMyAdmin seems to be straight forward, but the process is pretty much the same regardless of what sql management tools you use.

This may be of some help.

    Changing The Site URL

Here is a visual tutorial using phpMyAdmin

Fixed it… added two lines to the functions.php file of my theme:

    Where is my actual url.

Lesson learned: don’t goof after 10:00 at night.

Glad you got it going. That might not actually be a permanent fix, though. Although you can now access the site, I think that might prevent you from changing it in the dashboard in the future. Just food for thought.

[edit] I guess that might be true if the edit is in wp-config. I don’t know for sure if that applies to the same edit in a themes functions.php,

It’s now fixed on the site in “general” and I’ve reverted the functions file to it’s prior state.

Thanks for the super fast responses! I knew there was a good reason to use wordpress as my content management system of choice!
