Are you able to manually delete the plugins via FTP?

If so, have you tried changing the permissions of the /wp-content/plugins/ directory to 777?

Thank you for your response. I should be able to, I’m the administrator. I haven’t used the FTP since I initially set the website up. I’m able to do this through my web host and filezilla, right?

Yes, Filezilla is an FTP client. πŸ™‚

I don’t know what to do once I’m connected to FileZilla. Is there any youtube tutorials or anything you could suggest for me to follow? Thanks

Once you’re connected via Filezilla, navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.

From there, are you able to delete the directory of the problem plugin?

Unfortunately, I tried to delete the plugins manually. No changes were made on my actual website. Is there an alternative perhaps? I’m just concerned because I can’t make any updates or anything. Thanks for your responses thus far.

Wait, you deleted the plugin file, and when you tried to install the new one via the Dashboard, it still told you it couldn’t remove the files?

I know this is a pain, and we definitely don’t want to *have* to do this, but it’s necessary to know *how* to fix it.

Now, I am able to deactivate the plugins. Also, I can reactivate them but I can’t update plugins or themes. Does any of this make sense? I’m sorry if it’s confusing.

I attempted to update the theme. Now, I keep repeatedly receiving the following error message: Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

Yeah, I know, that’s why I’m asking you to try deleting one of the problem plugins via FTP, install it fresh via the Dashboard, and let us know if that worked out.

Now, I keep repeatedly receiving the following error message: Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

For that, follow this guide: https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_clear_the_.22Briefly_unavailable_for_scheduled_maintenance.22_message_after_doing_automatic_upgrade.3F

Yes, I tried that method. It isn’t working. I’m receiving the same error message captured in the screenshots.

And you can confirm for sure that there are no longer contact form 7 or mailchimp directories under /wp-content/plugins/ even though the error states that it cannot remove the old plugin?
