I can't put a gallery in a page

  • Hello,

    I’m new to NGG, I read some docs about it, but I can’t add a gallery in a page: if I press the NGG button in visual edit interface (by the way, leaving the mouse on which let the tooltip “ngg_attach_to_post.title” and not “NextGen Gallery” appear) I can upload images in a gallery a save it, but then I can only see the first image in the gallery into the page and in the text view the following code stays in gallery’s place:

    <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” alt=”” src=”http://www.mysite.md/index.php/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–164″ />

    probably instead of:

    [ngg_images gallery_ids=”2″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails”]

    Any ideas?

  • @matteo4536 That’s the way it works. You don’t see the gallery in your backend page, but a placeholder for the gallery. Look at the public page clicking on Preview.
    Instead, shortcodes are useful outside page or post editor, e.g. in a widget.

    Yes, but my problem is that I see the placeholder also in the public page…

    @matteo4536 Link?

    Sorry, it’s a new site, not yet published. I’m using WP 3.8.1 and NGG 2.0.59 on a LAMP system. The resulting code in the page with problem is:

    <p><img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” alt=”” src=”http://www.mysite.local/index.php/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–162″ /></p>

    (where the gallery should appear)

    @matteo4536 – Local installations can be very difficult to troubleshoot but you might look at the ports you are using, they should be the “standard” 80 and 3306 for localhost and MySQL respectively.

    You may also need to ensure you are not using the default Permalinks structure, perhaps try “post name” or “month name”.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

    Thanks, but ports are correct and I can see all the site perfectly except the gallery.

    The problem seems a compatibility issue with “Basic Google Maps Placemarks” plugin. If I remove from page the shortcode:

    [bgmp-map categories="Test"]

    Gallery is shown, if I leave it only placeholder is shown.

    @matteo4536 – Thanks for the follow-up. Have you addressed this with the author of the “Basic Google Maps Placemarks” plugin?

    Also, are you still seeing the incorrect tool-tip when hovering over the ATP button? It should read “Attach NextGEN Gallery to Post”

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

    I addressed this issue with the author of the “Basic Google Maps Placemarks” plugin right now: Possible incompatibility with NextGEN Gallery plugin.

    Yes, I still see the incorrect tool-tip when hovering over the ATP button: “ngg_attach_to_post.title” and not “Attach NextGEN Gallery to Post”, even on a new article with nothin in it.

    Matteo

    I only use these two plugins on the same page? 🙂

    … this is how shortcode is expanded in tha page:

    <p><img class="ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem" alt="" src="http://www.yoakedojo.it/index.php/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id--167" /></p>
    					</div><!-- .entry-content -->
